Research interests:

  • Prostate pathologies (BPH & prostate cancer).
  • Ovarian cancer.

Research Summary:

The research focus of our lab is on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer with special emphasis on the interaction between prostate stromal and epithelial cells. As men age, there is a typical alteration in the ratio of estradiol to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Under the altered levels of these hormones, stromal cells secrete certain paracrine factors that cause proliferation of epithelial cells and lead to either BPH or prostate cancer. This altered stromal-epithelial interaction occurring in vivo is being studied in vitro by culturing the normal prostate stromal and epithelial cell lines. In addition to this, we are interested in identification, characterisation and validation of novel proteins and mi-RNAs as non-invasive biomarkers for prostate pathologies.
