About NPIC
- Last Updated On :
The National Poisons Information Centre (NPIC), established in 1995 under the Department of Pharmacology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, is a premier national facility dedicated to poison information, toxicology support, and poison prevention activities in India. The centre provides 24×7 expert guidance on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of poisoning cases to healthcare professionals, emergency services, and the general public across the country.
NPIC plays a vital role in toxicovigilance, poison awareness, and capacity building through training programs, outreach activities, and development of educational resources related to chemical safety and poisoning management. The centre also supports research and analytical toxicology services, contributing to improved clinical outcomes and public health preparedness in toxicological emergencies. As a WHO-linked poison information resource, NPIC continues to serve as an important national reference centre for poison control and toxicology in India.
