The Department of Medicine remains at the forefront of medical education, fostering a vibrant, intellectually stimulating, and deeply enriching environment for both undergraduate and postgraduate learners. Our academic framework is thoughtfully structured to integrate traditional lectures and seminars with diverse interactive platforms, including intradepartmental Clinical Combined Rounds (CCR), Clinical Grand Rounds (CGR), journal clubs, mortality meetings, clinical case presentations, Infectious Diseases meets, and regular antibiotic stewardship updates. These are reinforced through rigorous bedside clinical discussions that emphasize experiential, patient-centered learning. Over the past year, the department has placed renewed emphasis on diagnostic stewardship, rational testing practices, infection prevention, hand hygiene compliance, and quality improvement initiatives—ensuring that trainees develop not only clinical expertise but also systems-based competencies essential for modern healthcare..
A particularly transformative academic contribution was the departmental Clinical Grand Round on “Tradition to Transformation: The Changing Face of Medical Education,” which emerged as an eye-opening experience for AIIMS undergraduates and postgraduates across disciplines. The benefits of the CGR transcended departmental boundaries, stimulating broader conversations on medicine, medical education, and healthcare delivery while shaping academic thought throughout the institute.
The department currently mentors 72 MD residents, 39 DM Infectious Diseases trainees, and 19 Senior Residents through a robust educational model that aligns learning objectives with practical exposure, research opportunities, and structured assessments. Residents also benefit from international observerships, conference participation, research methodology workshops, and national academic accolades.
Undergraduate teaching remains equally prioritized through faculty mentorship, structured bedside teaching, simulation-based learning, BLS training, emergency medicine exposure, and early research involvement. Our faculty further contribute extensively to nursing education, ensuring a holistic and compassionate approach to healthcare training. Through innovation, academic rigor, and educational leadership, the department continues to shape future leaders in medicine.
