Research

The department is very keen on developing Indian solutions to Indian problems. Most of the research conducted in the department is aimed at this goal. A weekly research meeting is used as a means to assess the progress in this area.

The ongoing research projects include:

  1. Developing and implementing a Gall Bladder Cancer Registry to collect clinico-pathological data

  2. Development and validation of a structured hands-on surgical skills training module for bilio-enteric anastomosis using animal tissues.

  3. Correlation of the presence of circulating tumour cells (CTC) with recurrence-free and overall survival in patients with periampullary carcinoma: a prospective study.

  4. To evaluate the role of tumor markers CA-242, CEA and CA 19-9 in diagnosis and prognostication of carcinoma gall bladder.

  5. To evaluate the role of tumor markers CA-125,CA-15-3, CEA and CA 19-9 in diagnosis of carcinoma gall bladder singly and combined.

  6. Predictors of malignancy in patients with suspected gall bladder cancer.

  7. Comparison of Clinical and Biochemical Optimization After Unilateral Vs Bilateral Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage in Primary Level Malignant Hilar Separation: A Randomized Control Trial

  8. A prospective observational study to see the impact of sarcopenia on the outcomes of patients undergoing PD for periampullary cancers

  9. Utility of Palliation with Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage in Patients with Unresectable or Disseminated Carcinoma Gall Bladder

  10. Outcomes of external pancreato biliary drainage in patients undergoing whipple's pancreatoduodenectomy : a non inferiority randomised controlled trial

  11. A study of the efficacy of intraperitoneal injection of methyl prednisolone on the severity of organ dysfunction in adult male wistar rats with acute pancreatitis induced by surgical ligation of the biliopancreatic duct

  12. Postoperative Albumin Drop Is a Marker for Surgical Stress and a Predictor for Clinical Outcome in Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgeries: A Prospective Study

  13. Prevalence of Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy in Extra Hepatic Portal Venous Obstruction patients following Proximal Lienorenal shunt surgery.

  14. Comparing feeding jejunostomy with nasojejunal tube placement in patients undergoing esophagectomy – A pilot study.
