1. 14th June 2018 – World Blood Donor Day Celebration

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: It is a well-known fact that blood cannot be manufactured. It is a living tissue with limited shelf life and availability and it can only be obtained through one's blood donation. To maintain the supply of safe blood, recruiting and retaining of voluntary non-remunerated blood donors is essential. For this purpose, Blood centre, Main Hospital of AIIMS New Delhi was always at the forefront in organizing voluntary blood donation camps. Events like "Nukkad Nakat, Cyclothon, Walkathon, Marathon, Flash Mob' were also organized to promote and propagate the message of Voluntary Blood Donation.

Ongoing Research projects:

Departmental projects:

  1. Prospective observational study to assess the prevalence of platelet refractoriness and its reasons in patients receiving multiple platelet transfusion in an Indian setting
  2. Incidence of delayed adverse events in blood donors following whole blood donation in Indian setting
  3. Retrospective analysis of differences in red blood cell usage across different gender, age groups and specialties in a tertiary care hospital
  4. Characterization of initially reactive discordant results tested by chemiluminescence (CLIA)and nucleic acid testing (NAT)during blood donor screening for hepatitis-B and hepatitis-C
  5. Incidence of adverse transfusion reactions and analysis of factors associated with these reactions: A four-year experience from a tertiary care hospital from India
  6. 6.      Diagnostic accuracy of using cell free fetal DNA isolated from mother's plasma for determination of fetal Rh D status during antenatal period as compared to determination of D status using serological tests in cord blood (Funded intramurally 5 lac)

Collaborative research projects with other departments

  1. H1-MR Spectroscopy based evaluation of metabolic abnormalities in anterior cingulate cortex, hippocampus and amygdala in treatment naïve patients with unipolar and bipolar depression and its relationship with peripheral glutaminase.
  2. Analyzing the effect of novel Pyrazole-based small molecule inhibitor on endosomal TLR-induced signaling activation in healthy peripheral blood mononuclear cells
  3. Analyzing the effect of novel Pyrazole-based small molecule inhibitor on cell surface TLR-induced signaling activation in healthy peripheral blood mononuclear cells
  4. Evaluation of immunomodulatory activities of Toll-like receptor signaling inhibitors in lupus peripheral blood mononuclear cells
  5. Evaluation of the potential impact of determination of paternal RhD zygosity and non-invasive fetal RhD genotyping using circulating cell-free fetal DNA from maternal plasma in the antenatal monitoring of alloimmunized pregnant women: A pilot study on cost-benefit analysis
  6. Determination of reference ranges for healthy individuals for new red blood cell and reticulocyte parameters in Indian population
