ई. एच. एस. (परिवार चिकित्‍सा विभाग) की स्‍थापना एम्‍स में केन्‍द्रीय सरकार की स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य सेवाओं के पैटर्न पर संस्‍थान के कर्मचारियों और उनके आश्रित व्‍यक्तियों की निवारक, संवर्धनात्‍मक और उपचारात्‍मक स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य देखभाल हेतु की गई थी।

बाह्य रोगी देखभाल का कार्य चिकित्‍सकों के द्वारा किया जाता है। यहां एक इंजेक्शन लगाने का कमरा, पट्टी बांधने का कमरा, इलाज कक्ष और दिवस देखभाल कक्ष हैं। दिवस देखभाल कक्ष में रोगी को अवलोकन के लिए किसी छोटी चिकित्‍सीय और शल्‍य चिकित्‍सा प्रक्रिया के बाद रखा जाता है। ईएचएस के आं‍तरिक रोगियों के लिए 52 बिस्‍तर हैं जो उनके लिए तय अलग अलग वॉर्डों में उपलब्‍ध हैं। यहां निजी कमरे हैं जो इन रोगियों के लिए तय किए गए हैं।

इस विभाग का संगठन इस प्रकार है :
