Workshop on "ORGAN RETRIEVAL IN MEDICO LEGAL
CASES" 23 March, 2003
A workshop on "ORGAN RETRIEVAL IN MEDICO LEGAL CASES" was
organized on 23 March, 2003 at AIIMS. The objective of this workshop was to develop guidelines and
smooth procedures for organ retrieval . The Forensic Experts from all over the India, Clinical
Experts from Department of Cardiology, CTVS, Neuro Surgery and Neurology, Lawyers from Supreme
Court, Nodal officers from Delhi Hospitals and Delhi Police officials from Crime Branch etc. attended the workshop.

HEART TRANSPLANT DAY
3rd August 2003

The ninth anniversary of first heart Transplant operation was celebrated on 3 Aug, 2003. Prime Minister Atal Bihari
Vajpayee, Union Health Minister Sushma Swaraj, AIIMS Director P. Venugopal with several doctors were present on this
occasion. PM announced that 3rd August will henceforth be celebrated as National Heart Transplant Day. He also designated ORBO as a national facility. |

FIRST
TRANSPLANT NURSING WORKSHOP - 7 December 2002.
Organ Retrieval and Banking Organisation (ORBO) and
Department of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery(CTVS) organized a
comprehensive Transplant Nursing Workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Professor P. Venugopal,
Chief Cardio Thoracic Centre, AIIMS. The workshop covered introduction of activities and
objectives of ORBO, management of end stage diseases of liver, renal and cardiac patients transplantation
(surgical techniques) and post transplant management the
recipients. Senior faculties from the departments of Cardiology
Nephrology, Gastroenterology, and the dietician and physiotherapist took
this session. |

INTER-SCHOOL
COMPETITION ORGANISED BY ORBO. 15th November 2002
Sparsh
2002 Extempore inter-Competition was organized by ORBO (AIIMS)
& SBO in association with Govt. of India and sponsored
by MTNL on 15th November 2002 at Raman Auditorium.
Schools from all over Delhi participated with the goal
to encourage organ donation. Celebrities like Kapil Dev
and Manpreet Brar also showed there support with their
presence. |

The first meeting of nodal officers from various hospitals of Delhi was held on 24th Aug. 2002 under
the chairmanship of Prof. P. Venugopal, chief C N Centre and Dean,
AIIMS. The meeting was held with the
purpose of discussing activities of ORBO and to workout modalities for networking of various hospitals
in Delhi.
Senior Nodal Officers from Govt. and private hospitals
like Safdarjung Hospital, Army Hospital (R&R), Guru
Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lady
Hardinge Medical College, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,
G.B. Pant Hospital, Loknayak Jaya Prakash Narain Hospital, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Batra
Hospital, Escorts Heart Institute and St. Stephens
Hospital attended the meeting and actively discussed
the various issues for facilitating the transplant
programme in our Country.

2002 – CELEBRATED AS “ORBO TRANSPLANT DAY”

Patients who had successfully undergone transplant cut
the cake to celebrate their new lives on 3rd August at
Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation, AIIMS. They celebrated the day they got the gift of life
again, and were here to remember and cherish this rare
chance. It was also a day for doctors to see the difference they had made, while for some it was an
opportunity to thank those who had given them their
lives back. On this occasion, transplant patients,
transplant surgeons, physicians, nursing staff and
others gathered to interact with each other and share
their experiences.
