SOCIAL WORK

Medical Social Services Unit:

Medical Social Services are organised in various OPDs, Wards, Clinics and Casualty by professionally qualified social workers designated as Medical Social Services Officers. They work under the guidance and supervision of the Medical Superintendent. They provide the following services to the indigent, needy and deserving patients:

Counselling and rehabilitation services including vocational rehabilitation.

2.

Resource mobilisation for the treatment and rehabilitation of the patients. Liasion with charitable trust, welfare agencies, philanthropists etc. is maintained for this purpose. Donations to the "AIIMS Poor Fund Account" are eligible for deduction Under Section 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961.

3.

Distribution of aids and appliances to handicapped patients eg. Tricycles, wheelchairs, callipers, braces, ctev shoes etc.

4.

Rehabilitation of destitute patients, abandoned infants in government approved welfare organisations.

5.

Arranging specific drugs for other than Pulmonary T.B. patients.

6 Arranging drugs for cancer patients through voluntary organisations and guiding patients for getting financial help from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and Health Minister's Discretionary Grant.
7. Facilitating patients for assistance from National Illness Assistance Fund.
8. Facilitating patients regarding suitability of non related organ transplantation.
9. Organisation of Blood Donation Camps.
10. Organisation of AIDS Awareness Camps.
11. Exemption of levy charges and investigation charges.
12. Arranging life saving drugs etc. for the poor patients from the hospital stores.
13. Arrangement of accommodation in dharamshala for out-station patients and their attendants.
14. Extending railway concession facilities to specific patients like leprosy, T.B., physically handicapped and cancer patients for further follow up and treatment.
15. Imparting field work training to post graduate students of social work while National Service Scheme Volunteers are given orientation for guiding and assisting patients to avail of the hospital services.
16. Extending medical social services to community based programs.
17. Supervising and coordinating the work of hospital guides.
18. Social Activities: Festivals like Diwali are celebrated, puppet shows/magic shows are organised in the children's in the children's ward.


WELFARE UNIT

Whereas, the Welfare Officer in addition to the above patient care services also performs the following functions with respect to promotion of welfare activities for employees and their families:

  • Counselling and rehabilitation services.
  • Resource mobilisation. Donations are credited to the A.I.I.M.S. Employees Fund.
  • Promotion of welfare activities for the employees with regards to their amenities such as cafeteria,  recreation and sports, living conditions etc.
  • Crisis management 
  • Organisation of Vocational Training programs for the benefit of the employees and children.
  • Group orientation program for employees.
  • Redressal of grievances 
  • Dealing with appointments on compassionate grounds.
  • Organisation of cultural and recreational activities for the "A.I.I.M.S. Family".
  • Extending supportive services to the Medical Institute Welfare.

Shri Sai Bhakta Samaj is constructing a dharamshala for the benefit and use of the out station patients and their relative coming for treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science.

The foundation stone of the dharamshala is being laid by Prof. P.K. Dave, Director, A.I.I.M.S. Seen in the picture (It to rt) are Mr. S.K. Kapur, Honorary Secretary, Shri Sai Bhakta Samaj, Mrs. Preeti Ahluwalia Welfare Officer, A.I.I.M.S., Mr. S.P. Mital, President, Shri Sai Bhakta Samaj and other members of the Samaj.

A tricycle is being presented to Mr. Mohinder Singh by Prof. R.K. Sarma, Medical Superintendent, A.I.I.M.S. Also seen in the picture is Mrs. Preeti Ahluwalia, Welfare Officer. Mr. Mohinder Singh and undergone and above knee amputation (lt.) and is working  as a khalasi, in the Institute. The tricycle was donated by Mrs. Mandira Luthra.
