Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing
Committee of the ‘DSHD2015’
and
‘DNA Society of India’, I
would like to invite you to
participate in the
International Congress on “Friedreich’s
Ataxia and DNA Structure in
Health & Disease” which
will be held during 11th -13th April,
2015 at the All India
Institute of Medical
Sciences, New Delhi, India. |

The double
helical structure of DNA, as proposed
by Watson and Crick, is
arguably the most
important discovery of the
last century in the field of
life sciences. This
discovery gave rise to a
number of new fields of
study, and abundant
research. Subsequent rapid
advancements in various
aspects of DNA structure and
function indicate the
continuous excitement in
this field of study. This
conference aims to address
the major aspects of DNA
structure to understand the
pathology and development of
therapeutics for human
diseases. Friedreich’s
ataxia (FRDA), a rare
genetic neurodegenerative
disease is caused primarily
due to the expanded (GAA)
repeats which form unusual
DNA triple helical structure
in the frataxin gene.
Although it was first
described over 150 years
ago, the pathology of FRDA
is still poorly understood,
and therefore no cure has
been found till date for
this early-onset disease.
The first day of our
conference will be devoted
to discussing the recent
developments in the research
on FRDA and aims to create a
consortium of researchers
and clinicians working on
FRDA patients in India.
The conference
is aimed at bringing
together leading academic
scientists and young
research scholars to
facilitate the exchange of
their latest experimental
data. The scientific program
includes Plenary Lectures,
Invited talks by a number of
renowned scientists from
across India and abroad. The
conference will provide a
forum to stimulate ideas and
establish collaborations as
well as to initiate intense
discussions.
In order to
create scientific enthusiasm
amongst school children, we
plan to invite about 25
students from Government
Schools in NCR. This is a
humble attempt to honor the
sentiments of our Honorable
Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra
Modi, who suggested that we
give poor students a chance
to witness the latest
scientific developments. We
hope that the interactive
sessions with
eminent scientists can
stimulate their interest in
science and motivate them to
consider biomedical research
as a viable career option.
Delhi boasts of
a rich tradition and sound
cultural values which can be
witnessed in its lifestyle,
demography, art, crafts and
music. We look forward to
welcoming you to an
inspiring, educational, and
enjoyable program in New
Delhi, India.
