INTRODUCTION

The Central Workshop was established at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1964 under Colombo Plan by Australian Govt. to promote the repair and maintenance of World Class Biomedical Equipments  in India.

The staff of the Central Workshop was trained in Australia in different discipline such as: -         

  

1.     Electronics

2.     Electrical

3.     Mechanical (Fitter, Turner & Tool Maker)

4.     Sheet Metal

5.     Refrigeration

6.     Fine Instrument  

7.     Painting, Carpentry & Jointer

 

The Central Workshop was also assigned WHO Project India 0199 to train technicians for medical equipment’s maintenance under the project of CWS through WHO & UNICEF. Central Workshop has trained 206 trainees from different State Hospitals in India and the under developed countries in South East Asia such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan & Burma. 

 

The Central Workshop in AIIMS is not only engaged in the repair and the maintenance of various equipments used for medical education, scientific research and hospital services but also helps in the research activities by modifying the instruments according to need. Central workshop also undertakes fabrication and design work of useful gadgets as per the specifications provided by the departments.

 

This department is headed by Faculty Coordinator, Dr. Shashi Kant, (Prof. Center for Community Medicine department) and under control of Chief Technical Officer, Mr. Adarsh Kumar  Sharma.
